General > Switch to Lima Ultra

What is the easiest way to Switch vom current lima to lima Ultra?

* attach lima ulta as additinal device (then I would Need 1 more harddisc)

* just attach the old lima harddisc to lima Ultra

* copy files from old-lima to PC; Format hard-drive and start with lima Ultra (very very slow)

thanks

Hello everyone,

We don’t recommend replacing your Lima Original Device with your Lima Ultra device if you only have one.

That being said, we’ve created an article explaining you how to do this properly here: https://support.meetlima.com/en/articles/115000124506-Can-I-replace-my-Lima-Original-with-my-Lima-Ultra

You receive an email explaining you all of this when your Lima Ultra is shipped (called 'Combining your Lima Ultra with your Lima Original’).

@Andrea: we’ve sent you this email last Thursday: did you receive it too late? Did you think it wasn’t clear enough? Your feedback really helps as it was the official guide that you were looking for and couldn’t find.

Thank you,

The Lima team.

When we look at Lima's answers to this question they only propose your first choice: (* attach lima ulta as additinal device (then I would Need 1 more harddisc)).

I woulk like to know how to upgrade our current lima with the new lima ultra without purchasing another HardDrive?

In my case i just want to switch the old lima with new one and keep my previous HD.

If I have to back up again my files it doesn't matter to me, but i want to know if i will have to go throught the support team, (as it is the case when we want to change the hardrive for example)

I had your same mindset, I'm on macos sierra 10.12.2 and tried to

  1. Backup all the files from the attached HDD
  2. "eject" the attached disk from old lima through the lima app
  3. Phisically detach the hdd from the old lima, connect it to my mac and reformat it hfs+
  4. Disinstall lima app through the lima uninstaller app
  5. unplug old lima
  6. connect lima ultra
  7. attach the wiped hard disk to lima ultra
  8. re-install lima app

Well, it was an epic failure: lima app couldn't finish setup of the new lima ultra (always ending in error #17).

Also, since I wiped out the hard disk, I couldn't do the trick of transferring the .lima folder onto a new hdd and try with that.

Basically I had to go through support, and they deleted my account in less than 1 day.

After that I was able to finalize my new lima ultra activation with the same hard disk I used with the old lima, but I wouldn't call it a seamless experience...

I don't know, maybe I did something wrong, but I'm pretty sure an official guide on how to just replace the old lima with a new lima ultra is quite lacking...

Well, I received that email on Saturday afternoon, so it was too late as I had already attempted to do it by myself.

It didn't help that googling "upgrading to lima ultra" or "replacing old lima with lima ultra" doesn't actually find the document referred by the email.

Anyway, everything is fine now.

Bonjour

Business is Business...

Bonjour Ludovic,

Lima a répondu à la question. Il est bien possible de remplacer son lima original par le lima ultra:

https://meetlima.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000124506
